COVID-19 Relief

The envelopment of societal collapse has become undeniably prevalent all around us. We see tens of thousands of people waiting in endless queues just to get access to basic healthcare facilities. We see people lining up outside pharmacy and drug stores in the hopes of acquiring the necessary medicines for their own sustenance and as well as the survival of their loved ones. We see people dying outside hospitals, on our roads, in their homes, helplessly gasping for air while the virus deprives them of their fundamental ability of inhaling air. They receive no oxygen support even after making countless requests and pleas for several days on end because the only source they have that can help them is the very healthcare infrastructure that remains crushed under the weight of this epidemic that has overwhelmed this nation and has caught us all in a tight gridlock. We see corpses piling up on burial and cremation grounds as if the country were at war, which is exactly what this is. It is a war being fought from door-to-door, house-to-house in which no man, woman, or child remains exempt from the consequences. What that makes us realize, is that each and every one of us must contribute to the effort so we can end this death-soaked feud that holds this country as a hostage.

The Awaaz Foundation, a youth-led NGO fully recognises the calamity that surrounds us and the desperate societal need for contribution and support, which is why our founder, Laiba Rahman, a 20-year-old college student from Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University, thought this to be the right time for the creation of several different domains across various social media platforms that seek to connect the needy with the one’s capable of providing the kind of assistance that is needed, creating multiple groups across WhatsApp and Telegram that has already accommodated hundreds of people from all across the country. In such times of calamity and chaos, it becomes clear that any and all essential resources are to become disastrously scarce in a considerably short span of time. This fact acted as the primary mode of encouragement for the organization to do the very things that allow these resources to flow smoothly from the healthcare providers to those seeking assistance. Because data authenticity is also most evidently vital for the success of their endeavours, they have created a comprehensive dashboard for ensuring all the sources are verified in detail before they are connected to the victims. Averting a countrywide crises situation is all about getting the right resources to the right people without any unnecessary hurdles, which is what they as a foundation seek to achieve as an outcome for their efforts.

Social media remains flooded with victims desperately asking for help and medical assistance, and the reality is that with the government and the healthcare infrastructure being so helplessly overloaded, social media remains to be the only way out for those struggling from the crises. It is the only mode of communication that can make it possible for the needy to gain access to what they need to survive, such as appropriate medications, oxygen cylinders, hospital beds, Covid tests, ambulances, food, medical counselling, and receiving care from certified doctors and healthcare specialists. The foundation aims to make that process considerably smoother for the victims through the creation of their groups across several platforms and their efforts to verify every single lead and source that is brought to their attention. The country is practically begging for its youth to step out of the shadows and do what the nation needs them to do, and they as a foundation are doing and will continue to do everything in their power to make that happen.
